The police
The police can be contacted at your local police station, or by telephone. You can get their number in the phone book or through directory enquiries. You can also click on the links below for your local police force’s website:
The police can give you advice about crime prevention and about personal safety.
If anything else happens connected with a crime that you have reported, tell the police as soon as you can. The officer dealing with your incident will not be on duty all the time, but you may leave a message, and they should get in touch with you.
Most police forces have trained officers who work in specialised units that deal with victims of serious crimes, such as rape, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, as well as with the families of murder and culpable homicide victims. They work closely with other agencies to make sure that as much as possible is done to help victims.
The police can also advise you about sources of help and advice.
